From time to time you run across a group of people that change your life. For me they did this plus so much more. Showit is not only the website company that I run my website through but an amazing family of photographers that are always in my corner and pushing me in my business. I was so excited that the United, the conference that Showit puts on yearly, was being hosted in Scottsdale this year. On top of that I was asked to present to a small gathering of newborn photographers and lead two styled shoots at my studio.

In the past Showit has been very heavily used by wedding photographers and the crew of photographers that attended United was just that, wedding heavy. I was so excited to meet such a great group of newborn photographers this year from all over the country of every experience level and even a few from right here in my own backyard.

We had two styled shoots at the studio, one on a Wednesday evening and one Sunday morning. Not going to lie, Wednesday evenings shoot really threw me for a loop and pushed me out of my own comfort zone! They had scheduled the shoot for 4:30pm which in the winter the sun is already starting to set. On top of that it was completely cloudy and pouring down rain. And…. on top of that the transportation that was supposed to bring the attendees was late so we didn’t start until after 5pm! Needless to say we had zero natural light!
I’m used to shooting with natural light pouring through my windows plus a little extra fill light from my Jinbei EF200 constant light. So this was FAR different from my usual. Thankfully I have a second light for emergencies that I was able to set up and make work.

Thankfully we had two wonderful babies each day. Their lovely parents let me borrow them to explain posing, soothing and shooting techniques. It was fun to see that four different babies were all SO SO different. Two fell asleep right away and slept through the whole two hours while the others were a bit more touchy and didn’t like to be moved a lot. As hard as those babies can be it was great for the attendees to see that not all my babies are perfect sleepers despite what they look like in the photos.
